Public Affairs Assistant

The Flagler Museum has an opening for a highly motivated Public Affairs Assistant to serve as a member of the Public Affairs team. Under the direction of the Public Affairs Director, the Assistant is responsible for the Museum’s advertising, marketing and public relations campaigns. The department’s team must be proficient in photography and videography, graphic design, writing and editing, print production, email marketing, website management, and social media marketing. Additionally, team members will have analytical skills to gather and utilize visitation and marketing data.


  • Design and write for Museum publications, and collaborate with Museum staff for articles
  • Assist in A/V set up for events
  • Assist with website administration and content (Joomla-based admin panel)
  • Collaborate with Museum staff for potential social media posts such as events and exhibitions
  • Build and maintain relationships with media, including attending meetings and networking events
  • Send email blasts and press releases for past and future events
  • Monitor and track social media analytics, and digital advertisements


  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related fields
  • Preferred 2 years of experience in marketing and/or communications
  • Ideal candidates will possess great attention to detail and have effective communication skills, be technologically savvy, and have the ability and organizational skills to work on multiple projects simultaneously to meet both short and long-term deadlines. Customer service or tourism industry experience a plus. This position will require occasional night and weekend shifts.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with the museum and cultural sector, including an understanding of current trends and challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency with DSLR cameras and other audio/visual equipment as well as post-production apps
  • Proficiency in Adobe CC apps - InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite - Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Email Service Provider experience - Constant Contact, Mailchimp
  • Social media management experience - Facebook, Instagram, and Hootsuite
  • Experience working with/managing third-party vendors
  • Proficiency in Apple tech (Mac platform)
